Post Zumba workout at Evo Conference |
I’ve never been a skinny girl. Even if I was physically, I didn’t feel like a skinny girl in the inside. That was very true during high school. It took a long time to get there, but I’m proud of my plus sized self. Lately though, I haven’t been feeling very healthy. I got winded walking up more than two flights of stairs. I felt lethargic and lacked energy.
I’m taking steps to become healthier. It’s not about weight or how my clothes fit. I want to feel good about my body when I move around. I want to become more active. Earlier this year, I was really good about exercising using my Wii Fit Plus. Then I became bored or lost motivation or both.
A couple of weeks ago I won a FitBit Ulltra during a Twitter party. FitBit is a device that tracks your daily activities: steps walked, floors climbed, calories burned, etc. It’s a small clip that you can wear throughout the day. I’d heard a lot about it, but was really intrigued after reading a story on Entrepreneur about the founders of FitBit. I especially wanted to learn about my sleep patterns. I have such a hard time falling asleep every night. I’ve been wearing my FitBit since Friday, when it arrived in the mail. It’s keeping me motivated to stay active and eat better. After I use it for a couple of weeks, I’ll do a review of it.
I also bought Zumba Fitness 2 for my Wii. I loved the zumba class I took at Evo. Sure, it was a long 60 minutes of kickbutt dancing and working out, but I felt good when I was done. My sense of rhythm isn’t very good so I worried if I could keep up with the steps. While I couldn’t follow all the moves, I didn’t feel like I had two left feet.
The game arrived over the weekend. I’ve played it a couple of times. I was sweating during each five minute number. My heartbeat was elevated. I felt energized after. I know I’m not ready for a full class yet. I plan on doing zumba at least 5-10 minutes at least three times a week.
It looks like I have an exercise plan and my FitBit Ultra to track my physical activity as well as my calories consumed and burned. I feel good.
Now that I’ve blogged about it, I guess I have to follow through. Remind me to blog updates every couple of weeks, ok? Keep me accountable.
How do you stay healthy?
