No one tells you that when you first hold your baby in your arms, you’re also handed a healthy serving of mommy guilt. The guilt grows exponentially with the addition of each child. Good thing we stopped at two kids. At the end of a long week, I’m ready to put my feet up with my favorite tv show and fire my mommy guilt with my favorite cocktail: a spicy ginger guavarita. That’s right, I fight back with my Fire the Mommy Guilt Guavarita!
I don’t know about you, but this winter with its snow days, school delays and below zero temps has totally blown our family routine to bits. I had to juggle harder to keep all the balls in the air. Too bad I don’t have a back-up juggler, like how celebrities have stunt people. While my kids had less school, I still have the same amount (if not more) of work. With snow days, I’m managing sibling rivalvry and deadlines all day.
I love my work for many reasons: the flexibility, the people, learning new things, and the fun gadgets. One thing I haven’t had in a few months is a blogging conference. I feel like I’m an addict when I say this: it’s been 4 months since my last blogging conference. I miss traveling. I need time away from my kids to appreciate them more. Or maybe it’s the other way around. I know at my husband appreciates me more when I’m traveling for work.
What I also love about bloggers is that not only do we work hard, but we play hard too. The conference is ending with the #NickMomPJParty! I better start shopping for pajamas. All the work and play makes me appreciate and love my family even more when I return. I’m rejuvenated and ready to rock work and family! I’m a much better mom (though with the more or less the same amount of mommy guilt).
This spicy guavarita gets its kick from fresh ginger and a slice of the bold jalapenos mixed with sweet guava nectar. After a couple sips of the guavarita, mommy guilt will be the last thing on my mind.
I hope you’ll out the guavaritas yourself!
Do you have a favorite cocktail to banish the mommy guilt?
Give your margaritas a kick with fresh ginger, jalapenos and guava nectar. In a small bowl, finely grate or puree fresh ginger. (I used a microplane) Add sugar and mix thoroughly. There should be enough puree for 6 cocktails. In a cocktail shaker with ice, add 1/2 tsp of sugar ginger mixture, tequila, triple sec, guava nectar, 1 slice of jalapeno, and juice from 1 lime wedge. Shake and pour into a glass rimmed with salt. Garnish with orange and jalapeno.

Oh no. Tequila makes me stupid. 😉
It's my fave. 🙂
Ok so I have zero mommy guilt about anything but that drink sure looks good! Fire it up, I want one!
I'm usually pretty good at keeping it at bay, but sometimes that mom guilt rears its ugly head.
Guavarita!!!! Please and thank you!
Oh. Yes. I LOVE a good spicy cocktail! This sounds amazing, way awesome twist on a boring old margarita!

I haven't drank a lot of spicy cocktails, but this makes me want to start. I bet it's amazing. I'm looking forward to see you again — we met the first time (I think) at Blogalicious in Las Vegas. Can't wait for SoFabCon!
I look forward to seeing you at SoFabCon! It's going to be awesome again.
