I Met Queen Latifah at BlogHer 2013!

I’m exhausted from an amazing weekend at BlogHer, but I just had to share that I met Queen Latifah! She is beautiful and tall, if you couldn’t tell from the photo above. Queen Latifah was the MC for this year’s Voices of the Year Keynote. She came backstage to say hi to everyone before the keynote began. I don’t normally gush over celebrities but her sudden entrance was so surprising. Queen Latifah is super nice and very friendly.

I was less nervous that I thought I would be, but I got up there and read my Voices of the Year post for Op-Ed, I’m Tired of Defending My Nationality. Apparently, there are funny parts because you all laughed. I’m glad my theatre training taught me to pause for laughter. So many women approached me at the VOTY reception to share similar experiences with me, while others discussed how they were fascinated by others’ history and personal story. I wanted my post start the discussion about being asked “What’s your nationality?” and it did. Thank you!

Speaking of the reception, there was a giant poster with my post on it. Of course I had to take a photo of it since there’s not way that it would fit in the overhead bin compartment!

I’ll post more about BlogHer and my panel about Modern Families soon. I just need a little more sleep!
