I have mad respect for interactive performers. It takes talent and concentration to interact with the general public and stay in character. That’s exactly what Cirque du Soleil Varekai‘s Andrey Kislitsin (Skywatcher) and Vladimir Pestov (Magioso) did yesterday as they roamed Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Children squealed in delight while adults whipped out their cellphones as Skywatcher and Magioso flitted from crowd to crowd.
The mischievous duo photobombed selfies, took over the Inner Harbor’s Phillips Seafood restaurant, and swam through the Maryland Science Center‘s Follow the Blue Crab exhibit.
As you can see, the theme of the day was definitely Maryland crabs. Or rather crab mallets.
Skywatcher and Magioso’s child-like curiosity was contagious as impromptu crowds gathered to watch their gleeful exploration of all things Baltimore. I found myself laughing along as I chased after them with my camera. They are fast!
Cirque du Soleil Varekai is set deep within a forest atop a volcano. A young man falls from the sky and discovers a magical forest full of extraordinary creatures. I’m looking forward to seeing them perform tonight. Based on my first time experience with Cirque du Soleil Amaluna, I know it will be amazing! Take a look at the preview below and get a glimpse of the magic that Varekai creates for its audience.
Cirque du Soleil Varekai is performing at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore. It opens tonight and runs through July 12. It’s a short run, so don’t delay in purchasing your tickets!
