As a PBS Kids VIP, I received an Odd Squad screener and t-shirts. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links.
My kids keep asking me if anything odd is happening in our home.
It’s because they want to be Odd Squad agents and solve mysteries using math, just like Olive and Otto on PBS Kids new live action series Odd Squad.
The Odd Squad agency is comprised entirely of kid agents who use math to solve unusual happenings around the world. Like all PBS Kids shows, there’s elements that will appeal to both children and adults. I love all the play on spy films. It’s a hilarious show and we have fun watching together as a family.
After watching as many episodes as they could, Sophia and Jaxson now want to be Odd Squad agents. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it! I thought it’d be fun to make a game out of their agent training.
Odd Squad Agent Training
1. Choose an O name. All agents at Odd Squad have names that start with the letter O. Give the kids a list of O names to choose from. You can visit the Odd Squad website to create your agent profile.
I created a printable for creating their Odd Squad Name. My kids just opted to add O in front of their names: Osophia & Ojaxson, but you can lots of fun with it. (Scroll to end of the post for printable.0
2. Dress like an Odd Squad agent. Field agents where a navy blazer, white button collared shirt, a red time and the Odd Squad badge. Oscar, runs the science department, wears a lab coat and a blue bow tie.
I’ll bet you can find those items at the thrift store. Or you can buy these super adorable Odd Squad t-shirts from PBS Kids shop. Sophia has requested the Miss O (President) shirt. You can even personalize the shirts with your child’s name!
3. Apprentice with a seasoned agent. Just like Agent Otto, all field agents benefit from partnering with an experienced agent like Agent Olive.
Kids can learn by watching agents in action. Check your local listings for the time. You can also watch clips and full segments from “Odd Squad Saves the World” will also be available on PBS Kids, the PBS KIDS Video App and PBS KIDS on Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire.
4. Practice your math skills by playing the games on PBSKids or on the new Odd Squad: Blob Chase app for iPad, Google Play, or Amazon. Catch centigurrs (little pink fuzzballs that resemble Tribles) before they multiply out of control. Or take over Creature Duty by feeding fantasy animals with food they all agree upon. In the Blob Chase, you have to find all the pieces of the Blob and return them to its container. The games on the website are free and the Blob Chase app is only 99cents!
5. Drink juice boxes. If you aspire to be the President of Odd Squad, you can channel Miss O by drinking lots and lots of juice boxes. Yelling is completely optional, of course.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully completely your Odd Squad agent training!
Now print out your badge, color it and wear it proudly! (Parents: it’s not the actual badge but just the Odd Squad logo)
Here are the two printables. Make sure you choose the “Fit to Page” option in Adobe Acrobat Reader when you print them. Right-click (or control + click) each file’s link and choose “Save As” or “Download Linked File As” to download and save them to your computer.
