Back in May, I had the privilege of attending the grand opening of Walgreens’ new DC flagship store in Chinatown. I never thought I could fall in love with a store, but I did fall in love with all three levels of that Walgreens. When I visit my husband at work, I always make an excuse to go to the flagship store. Since my husband’s workplace is only blocks away, I wanted to see how Walgreens Healthcare Clinic could help him.
My husband hates going to the doctor. I have to nag and cajole him until he’s tired of hearing me say it. One reason he hates seeing his primary care doctor is that it’s really hard to get an appointment. Even for a sick visit. When he does have an appointment, he wastes half his morning in the waiting area because his doctor is always running behind. He is the reason I’m glad Walgreens has a clinic near his place of work.
The clinic is open early and closes late during the weekdays. It’s even open on the Saturday and Sunday. There’s no appointment necessary so he could stop by after work for sick visits or even flu shots. He can even check his Walgreens website or app to see if there’s a wait. When I’m sick, I don’t even bother trying to call my doctor anymore. The last time I tried that, my doctor was on a 2 week vacation! At the health clinic, I can easily see a nurse practitioner to get the care I need.
When you check-in at the kiosk, you can see if the clinic accepts your insurance. If you don’t have insurance or for the things your insurance doesn’t cover, there’s a monitor that lists services offered and the cost. How many doctors offices tell you upfront how much something with cost? Only my dentist does that. Besides coming to the health clinic for sick visits, you can get vaccines, sports physicals, diabetes screening and a lot more. Visit the Healthcare Clinic site to see all the services, accepted insurance, etc.
If the nurse practitioner prescribes medication for you, the clinic can electronically send it to the Walgreens pharmacy, which is conveniently right next to it. I don’t know about you, but when I’m sick or my kids are sick, one less thing to do makes my life so much easier. There’s no excuse for my husband not to fill his prescription either!
The Walgreens DC flagship store is smack dab in Chinatown, which is always bustling with people. There’s a mix of tourists (lots!), folks who work in the area, and local residents. If you’re on vacation in DC or another big metro area, look to see if there’s Walgreens Healthcare Clinic near you. If you get sick or sprain your ankle exploring the city, you seek medical help at the clinic.
Now that fall is fast approaching, I plan on send my husband to the Healthcare Clinic for his flu shot!
Do you see your primary care doctor as often as you should or do you go to walk-in clinics?
