How Hurricane Sandy Made Me Fat

Just popping in to let everyone know we’re doing ok after Hurricane Sandy. Going to bed last night was a bit tough as the wind howled outside. I’ve been watching the news and our friends to the north got hit the hardest. I hope recovery and help comes quickly.

To stave off cabin fever and kids bouncing off the walls, we baked. It felt like all of my friends on Facebook were baking. So I was inspired to bake. Rather I baked and everyone else ate. I made pumpkin pie (made from freshly roasted pumpkin puree), caramel pumpkin bread and chocolate chip pumpkin bread. I had a lot of pumpkin puree. They were all equally yummy.

Another bonus is that I was able to start and finish book in a day. While the kids watched tons of tv and played video games, I curled up on my couch with some coffee and a book.

It was sort of like a staycation. Except for the lights flickering every 10 minutes. And the fear of losing power or a huge gust of wind throwing loose objects around outside. Thankfully nothing bad happen over here.

I love social media during times like this. People check in with each other on Facebook and Twitter. We support each other, offer condolences for power lost, even keep each other updated on the storm. Even make fun of the poor tired and cold newscasters stuck in the rain.

It helps me stay sane after being cooped up with 2 wild kids for 2 days.

How you’re all doing ok.

Don’t let me eat all the sweets. Come over and I’ll share.
