Acorns are a hot commodity in our home. Last year there was a dearth of acorns, of which Sophia lamented often. Turns out that oak trees have cycles when it comes to acorn. The years of abundance are termed mast years. This autumn is definitely a mast year.
This year we’ve been collecting everywhere we can. Some are large and long. Some are round and squat. We have acorn caps. Some without acorn attached, some with two hats stuck together. There are acorns in our car and in almost all rooms of our apartment. I’m starting to sound like Sam I am in Green Eggs and Ham. Good thing Jaxson hasn’t tried to eat any. Yet.
Have you ever stepped on an acorn in the middle of the night? Expletives were not satisfying enough for that experience. Almost as bad as a Lego. Snapfish sent me this super cute personalized metal lunchbox by Frecklebox. Since Jaxson isn’t in preschool yet, I thought the lunchbox would be perfect for his nature walk findings.
The fun thing about storing acorns in a metal lunchbox is that they make a fun sound when you shake them. We haven’t played with it yet, but there’s a chalkboard on the inside lid. Great for notes from mom and dad when the kids eat their lunch. It did make me wistful for my childhood lunchbox, complete with matching thermos. Snapfish has many different lunchbox designs that you can personalize. I’m impressed by how sturdy the box is.
After collecting his acorns, Jaxson released them into the wild. He wanted to make sure Scaredy Squirrel had enough food to eat this winter. Which hopefully means I won’t step on anymore of them.
I received a credit from Snapfish by HP in order to personalize a lunchbox. Though the Frecklebox lunchbox is labeled for Back to School, I think they’re great all year round. These would make perfect busy boxes for traveling. All opinions are my own.
