Looking Past the Tooth Fairy

Baltimore’s Inner Harbor GAH-geous!

It’s hard to imagine my 6 year old will stop believing in the tooth fairy one day. Every time she grins her toothy-but-one-tooth-missing smile, I want to just freeze the image and feeling forever. Sometimes when she smiles, I think, she’s going to need braces.

Luckily, I’ve never had to wear braces. On the other hand, my husband’s high school pictures show off his metal mouth gear prominently. A couple of weeks ago, I dragged him to the Four Seasons Baltimore to learn more about Invisalign. Once he found out it was at the Inner Harbor, I didn’t really have to drag him. (The event was sponsored by Invisalign.)

Throughout the session, I could hear my husband murmur in agreement as the dentist shared the care and pain of wearing braces. For those not familiar with Invisalign, it’s an alternative to braces. Instead of metalwork, the patient wears BPA-free plastic trays that will slowly straighten their teeth. Each tray is worn for a set amount of time. I had no idea how high tech Invisalign was until we saw the digital renderings of a patients’ orthodontic plan.

My husband was immediately sold on Invisalign for Sophia. Though not all of her adult teeth are in and she’s not quite old enough, we both hope she’ll be a good candidate for Invisalign. Her father doesn’t want her to go through the pain and inconvenience of metal braces.

While I would never tell my daughter her teeth aren’t pretty, I know as she grows older, she will become more aware of her smile. I never want her to feel embarrassed about her smile, like I was growing up. Feeling good about your smile is important to your self esteem. This post is sponsored by Invisalign. We attended an information workshop to learn more about Invisalign and photography (gotta capture those smiles!). All opinions are my own. My husband’s excitement about no metal work in our daughter’s mouth is totally his as well.
