Dreaming of a Holiday Girls Night In

Until I had kids, the holidays didn’t seem so hectic to me. I loved going to holiday parties. Dressing up, eating lots of yummy food, consuming even tastier cocktails. Now with the kids’, I’m worry about Christmas presents, bedtime schedules and the ultimate mom guilt: am I around enough?

This holiday we’re entertaining a bit more than we have in the past. We’re hosting a couple of parties with our friends and their kids. It’s gonna be wild. Especially in my two bedroom apartment. Still it’s fun.

You know what I want this holiday season? Besides a castle and a cabana boy?

A girls night in.

I would will for time to slow down just a bit, or maybe add an extra day or two somewhere. Then invite my girlfriends over for some time-just us. No kids, no significant others. The dress code is easy: yoga pants or pajamas.

I’ll mix up some cocktails. Appletinis or pumpkin martinis anyone? I’ll pick up some decadent desserts like tiramisu, cheesecake, 7 layer chocolate cake and whatever I can find that I won’t have to bake. Since I’m a savory snacker, we’ll have my favorite chips and cheeses too.

Then we’ll all curl up on my new comfy couch and chair. I can see us now, each with our hand curled around a martini or wine glass, laughing and giggling.

Since I’m a crafty kind of gal, I might even set up an easy peasy ornament decorating craft to make while we hang out.

Wouldn’t that be fun? Just an easy laid back evening during the crazy holiday season to stuff our faces with dessert and drink delicious cocktails?

I’m looking at my December calendar right now and there’s no lull until December 26.

But this gal can dream. And plan for a girls night in 2012.

How are you keeping sane this holiday season?
