Without meaning to, I took a mini-vacation over the Thanksgiving weekend. The past several days I semi-unplugged from blogging, Twitter, and the rest of my social media addictions. The weather in DC was unseasonably warm and we took advantage of it.
Hubby and my sister did most of the cooking on Thanksgiving. I made shitake stuffing cups and the macaroni and cheese. Easy peasy compared to the turkey that hubby roasted and the chopped Brussel sprout and kale salad my sister made.
We had some friends over for our late turkey lunch, then whipped out our repertoire of dancing games on the Wii: Just Dance Kids, Just Dance 2, and The Michael Jackson Experience. After we worked off the delicious food, we pulled out board games from NorthStar Games: Say Anything Family and Crappy Birthday. (We’re not a big fan of the word crappy so we call it Crabby Birthday in our home.) Sophia joined in and drew her answers to Say Anything instead of writing them out.
We laughed. A lot. We laughed at ourselves when we danced. We laughed at each other. We just laughed.
As if the weekend wouldn’t get any better, the weather so gorgeous, we hit our favorite park. Twice. Sophia was able to play on her scooter. We took a leisurely walk around a pond. We picked up spiky balls from a gumball tree. We found a goose feather. We watched the geese chase each other over the water.
I even found time to read. I didn’t finish a book, but I savored lounging in my bed surrounded by a pile of books while hubby slept next to me.
Compared to how my days usually are, this weekend’s pace was much slower.
I needed this weekend to unwind before life’s whirlwind draws me in again.
What did you do this weekend?
