I have no idea why I felt compelled to tell Sophia about Weinergate. We were in a donut place and the story came over their television.
I explained the incident to her. We’ve had conversations about body parts and privacy before. So that’s how I approached it, in terms a 5 year old would understand.
There’s this man by the name of Weiner, who sent a picture of his wiener to another woman who wasn’t his wife. He got caught when everyone saw the picture, but then tried to lie about it. Mr. Weiner sent out a picture of his wiener.
I admit I enjoyed wording it in a way she could understand. Hubby just watched the entire exchange trying not to laugh out loud.
I did turn it into a teaching moment about values. We talked about how lying was bad. Private parts are private. I might have even slipped in something about fidelity.
You know what stuck out in her mind the most?
Mr. Weiner sent out a picture of his wiener.
She was still giggling about it the next day.
