Keep Track Of Your Blog Schedule w Busy Body Books Planner

Edited 7-29-2012: BusyBodyBooks are no longer available. Check out my search for the perfect planner for some suggestions.

Since January, I’ve been using my Busy Body Books planner to keep track of my blogging and social media projects. I’m still a huge fan of my Google Calendar and went paperless for most of last year.

Sometimes I think I’m crazy because I have two blogs and write for other websites. I look forward to sitting at my computer to blog and write. While I’m not at my desk, I get so many ideas for blog posts! So instead of trying to remember them, I started making a list.
The Busy Body Books calendars have an interesting format. The one I have is a week per 2 pages. On the right side is a calendar grid and I have 5 columns for each day of the week. I think the original idea behind the calendar is to keep track of different family members’ schedules.
When I first received this calendar in m BlogHer10 swag bag, I didn’t think I needed it. I use Google Calendar to keep track of our family’s playdates, doctor’s appointments, and work schedules. What if I used it for my blogs and other social media projects?

It’s messy but I’m not trying to impress anyone

Each column on my BusyBodyBooks page is dedicated to different categories. Three of them are the same every week: this blog, my food and craft blog, and my writing gig for a local site. Now that I’ve taken over as editor of From Left to Write, it has its own dedicated column. The last column is marked Other as a catch all.
At the beginning of the week (Sundays for me), I sit down and fill out as much of the week as possible. If I have any deadlines, I’ll try to fill them in the correct spot on the calendar as soon as I know the deadline. If I know I want to write about a specific topic on a certain day, then I make a note on that date. Any gaps, I’ll pencil in as the week comes along.
I have my entire week at a glance. My goal is to post on each blog at least 3 times a week. It doesn’t always happen, but I don’t beat myself up about it. I keep my blogging schedule simple by participating in Wordless Wednesday. Those are quick easy posts I can schedule in advance.

I’ll refer back to previous weeks for writing ideas when I’m feeling stuck.

The left side is mostly open for notes. Here, I might write some to-do lists or scribble down ideas for blog posts. I use it to brainstorm as well.
As you see, I leave my weekends mostly blank. I do my Passion Parties on the weekends so I not very active on Twitter on the weekends. Hubby and I also have date night then too. I should probably schedule it in the calendar too.
I keep the calendar at my desk. I don’t carry it around with me. I only write at my desk. When I’m with my kids, I try to stay off the computer. I still keep my Passion Parties calendar and to lists on Gcal as I wrote about in a previous post. I like the capability for reminders sent via text to my phone.
I think it’s good to compartmentalize so my brain doesn’t go on overload.
Whew! How do you keep track of our blogging calendar?
Though I received the My Busy Body Calendar in my BlogHer swag bag, I was not obligated to post about them. As you can tell, I’m pretty happy with it so far, especially since I’m using it consistently.
