Feel Young Again With UbiSoft’s Michael Jackson The Experience

MJ Wii 002

When my review copy of UbiSoft’s Michael Jackson The Experience arrived, I became the best wife ever. I think that was the fastest I could get hubby away from his Madden NFL game.

Guess what fun extra was inside the game? Yup, that’s hubby with sparkly white glove and hat, getting in the groove to play the Michael Jackson dance game. (Note: the glove is for entertainment purposes only since you should not wear it while playing the game.)

Playing the dance game was a great rainy day activity yesterday because that’s what it did, rain all day. Game play was easy to pick up as the game is similar to Ubisoft’s Just Dance and Just Dance Kids. Up to four players can hold the Wii remote in their right hand (game play will be different if you have other game systems), and mirror Michael Jackson’s on screen moves. The left side of the screen shows what moves are coming up and how well each player is doing. I would have liked it if the if the pictures of the moves were a little bit bigger and easier to see while dancing.

With 27 of MJ’s songs on the game, you can dance to songs that span throughout his career. For hubby, flipping through the song list was like a walk down memory lane. It includes classics such as Smooth Criminal, Rock with You and The Girl is Mine.

I’ll admit I mostly watched hubby from the couch as he played the game. I usually kick his butt in Just Dance 2 but I think he would totally demolish me in this game. According to my resident MJ expert (hubby), many of the moves come from the original videos, so he was able to pick up the choreography fairly quickly. However, that doesn’t mean the game is easy. Smooth Criminal was labeled as medium difficulty, and hubby was working hard to keep up.

Thriller totally kicked his butt because this he collapsed on the floor after he was done. When dancing to Thriller, you have the option of dancing Michael’s choreography or follow along with the zombies. Other songs also have the option to dance Michael’s part or the chorus choreography.

After dancing to several songs, hubby was tired but energized. He got a good work out and he says, “it was fun and nostalgic to hear all of those Michael Jackson songs.” As I watched him dance, I could tell he was having a blast! The songs made him feel young and alive, which is a nice change from exhausted, sleep-deprived dad.

Michael Jackson The Experience retails for $49.99 and is available for Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and Playstation PSP.
