Right at Home During BlogHer

On the Smores train headed to NYC!

I’m no stranger to conferences, having attended many of them in my 9 years in Passion Parties, but BlogHer is a whole other beast. There were over 2400 attendees, not counting all the companies in the expo hall! Still I felt at home among all these bloggers and social media mavens.

I didn’t attend all the sessions that I planned, but I definitely came home with a much fuller soul. I made some new bloggy friends and was able to spend more time with the ones I already knew.

When going to a blogging event, I always worry that I’ll meet a big name blogger and totally lose it when I attempt to talk to her. Thank goodness I was just myself when I met Lenore Skenazy of Free Range Kids. I was roaming the halls when I walked past by my friend Amie of Mammaloves. She was having a chat with Lenore and I just butted in. Guess what? For all the fame that Lenore has, she’s just like you and me!

I went to many events, but Saturday’s gala was just amazing. Just the week before BlogHer, my friend Susan informed us she was cancer free. I witnessed her strength-both emotionally and physically-all weekend, but especially as she read her community keynote onstage. She’s an inspiration to many, even though I know that she didn’t ask to be.

I was also painted by the fabulous Karen Walrond, creative woman extraordinaire. I chose my word carefully, empowered. I didn’t always feel empowered to ask for what I wanted, and I never take it for granted.

Heck I even was interviewed for an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, along with other amazing bloggers.

A lot more happened. I’m soaking it in still. Letting everything I saw and heard at BlogHer mingle in my mind, my heart.

All I know is that this is a community I always want to be part of.

Thank you to BitMoms who sponsored me. I would have never been able to attend without their support. And thanks to Hershey for sponsor my train ride with 35 other bloggers. The riders in our car will never be the same. I’m sure we traumatized them.
