Networking Overload

Have you ever had networking overload?

When I was in high school, I never thought of myself as a social butterfly. Apparently I started to blossom in college. I guess I just needed to find people more like myself.

Lately, I’ve been attending a lot of bloggy events. From Momz Share back in March to Blogalicious DC meetups. A Mominatrix book signing. Even an art show opening. You know what happens at these events right? Business cards. I’m not shy about handing out my Passion Parties business card. I usually ask for a card in return.

After attending several events here’s what part of my desk looks like. (Ignore the other random bits, please. My desk is in need of an overhaul.)

Piles of business cards. Now, I’ve already followed many of these people on Twitter. What should I do with the? I do have a little drawer that I throw business cards into. I think if I throw these in there, it might not close.

What do you do with the business cards you collect? Throw them away? Do they languish at the bottom of your purse? I hate to throw them away because people spend lots of time and money on them.

Tip for you: attach something of value to your card and it won’t be thrown away. I attach a sample of one of our products to my business cards when I hand them out.

Even Sophia knows I do this. The other day, she found some of my business cards in an unused purse. She pulled them out and wanted to play Passion Parties. How? I asked. By attaching samples to them!

Granted, she’s not sure what Passion Parties is but it sure sounds like fun! About a year ago, she asked me what I actually did at a Passion Party. I told her, “I sell things that help mommies and daddies stay married.” She was 3 years old back then and it was a good enough answer. It’s rather oversimplified, since I have clients from all spectrums: young, more experienced, married, life partners, lesbians, etc.

She does know that I like my job as much as I like staying home with her. I hope when she’s older she realizes how lucky she is!
