A Classic Louisiana Crawfish Boil in DC

This past weekend was our annual college alumni association’s crawfish boil. In Louisiana, crawfish boils become a huge family affair. It takes a lot of time and energy to cook pounds and pounds of crawfish, so why not invite over friends and family to help and partake?

Good friends don’t let other friends photobomb their photos. Ok, they do!

While none of us are involved in the cooking of the food or serving of the beer, the community vibe is still there. The kids love it as much as we do. We pack them a picnic lunch while the rest of us gorge ourselves on as much spicy crawfish as we can. The kids run around the park and make new friends. Sophia even convinced several kids to help her build a crawfish habitat as she “rescued” some live crawdads!

This year my mother-in-law was in town for the picnic along with our friends. Jaxson has already asked when he can go to another crawfish boil! That’s always a good sign. Of course we ended our day with a visit to Krispy Kreme. It’s become a family tradition.
