My parents encouraged my book learning much more than any sports related extracurricular activities, since, in true Asian parenting fashion they wanted me to be a doctor or lawyer. So books were much more important for a doctor than a volleyball or basketball player.
That’s why I’m so happy that we were able to take Sophia to a WNBA basketball game. Even though I’m not very sporty and my husband is, I don’t want to give Sophia the impression that only boys are into sports. She’s expressed an interest in the sports that my husband watches but most of them are men’s sports.
Hubby’s cousin Seimone Augustus plays for the Minnesota Lynx, was in town playing the Washington Mystics. She offered us tickets to the game, so why not?
Sophia had a blast cheering or her cousin, #33. Seimone sent her a Lynx jersey a couple of years ago, so of course we had to pull it out. She danced, clapped–the game was perfect for her! She even made it on the Jumbotron for a quick moment-until the camera guy realized she was rooting for the visiting team!
Jaxson just loved the rock music they played and would randomly yell “Ball!” His little cheers and claps were so cute.
After the game we were able to head downstairs to the Press area (thanks to our cousin for the passes) to have a quick chat with Seimone before she headed on the bus to go back to Minnesota. Unfortunately the lighting was terrible so the picture didn’t come out that well.
I think this is a good catalyst for some daddy daughter sporting dates!
