When the Clever Girls Collective asked me to host a party that involved a disco ball, how could I say no? This past weekend we invited some friends over to find their inner dancing queen. As in the ABBA You Can Dance by Ubisoft game.
And well, I think my friend found is inner queen alright. Check it out. I’m not sure if it’s got blackmail potential but it’s entertaining.
Even though hubby and I were born at the end of the disco area, we have danced to plenty of ABBA songs during our rowdy college days. Like a lot of the other Ubisoft dance games (we have a Wii), Abba You Can Dance was easy to pick up. One of the features we liked was some of the songs had 4 different dancers with slightly different choreography. The dancing was much more fun that way. Heck, when we got it right, we were even synchronized.
Besides playing against each other and as a team, the game has many other options as well. We had so much fun dancing, we never tried the mini-musical mode. You can also show off your skills with the karaoke mode if you have microphones that work with your Wii. I think Wii microphones might just be on my wish list. Hubby and I had karaoke at our wedding reception. It’s just what you do when most of our friends were theatre majors.
I was inspired by the disco ball and prepared a cheese fondue for the evening. Ok, it’s totally Trader Joe’s prepared cheese fondue. It’s refrigerated. I heated it up and poured in some beer to make it extra tasty. And it was.
Sophia also loved the choreography in Abba You Can Dance. I tried playing Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen for her in preparation for the party but she didn’t like them. Now that she’s danced to them, she keeps requesting the music. I might have converted her after all.
It was fun evening, full of cheese and dancing. No matter how horrible I am at dancing, I still have fun.
You should definitely add ABBA You Can Dance to your wish list this holiday. Pull it out after your holiday dinner and work off that yummy holiday food.
Oh, and the disco ball? Totally perfect for the breakfast table. Pancakes via disco lights just taste better.
