Welcome to 2012!
We had a quiet evening at home to ring in the new year. We let Sophia stay up to watch the ball drop and surprisingly, she made it, even after a full day at Port Discovery’s Noontime New Year. As she drank her sparkling cran-apple juice in a real champagne glass, she grinned and announced “I feel so grown-up.” She is so grown-up. I know I say it a lot, but she’s grown so fast!
Like the past few years, I’ve chosen a word of intention for 2012. I’m not sure how well I did with my word for 2011, but I’m not going to waste time worrying about something I can’t change. Since 2012 is a leap year, I was really drawn to the word LEAP. But I wasn’t sure how I could stay focus on the word. I used a to help me figure it out.
I debated between Leap and Ask. While I was in Boston for the Massachusetts Conference for Women, I attended Tory Johnson’s Small Business Boot Camp. I learned so much, but now, one month later, one line resonates the most. Tory told us that we won’t get what we want if we don’t Ask. As women, we’ve been program to just accept what we’ve been given instead of asking for what we want. There have been plenty of times that I have been afraid to ask for more, to ask for something I really want instead of settling for what I knew would be easy to attain.
My word for 2012 is ASK. I’m going to make sure I ask. In the past, whenever I have asked, doors of opportunities have opened for me. Not everyone I asked gave me what I asked for, but it’s the yeses that have made a difference. Sure, it’s nerve wracking to ask, but my ego can take a few no’s if I get a yes every now and again.
What are your intentions for 2012? Have you made any resolutions?
