Turn Off the TV So Creativity Can Bloom

Like any parent, I agonize over how much screen time my kids get (too much). Especially during the hot days of summer. There are so many electronic forms of entertainment that are available to them that I didn’t have at their age. I love watching television and playing video games too, but sometimes I just have to turn it all off.

That’s when the magic happens in our home, once the tv goes off.

During one of these “the tv needs a break” moments, Sophia and Jaxson made a kid-sized island in the middle of our living room. I helped them stabilize the roof, but the creation was all theirs. They played pretend on their little island while I made lunch.

From the eavesdropping I did, it sounds like they had better adventures than the cast of Gilligan’s Island.

You bet I’m enforcing “no tv” time for longer hours everyday.
