I’m excited. I’m leaving for Boston later this week for the Massachusetts Conference for Women.
It’s amazing how everything comes together. Justice Fergie introduced me to Tory Johnson‘s website earlier this year. Both Justice Fergie and I have this problem or strength (depending on how you view it): we have multiple passions and are always coming up with new ideas. Tory Johnson’s conferences for small women business owners seemed like a good fit for me. However, I wasn’t able to attend for many reasons: timing, finances, finding childcare. But I never gave up the idea of seeing Tory Johnson.
Fast forward to this week. Thanks to some connections I made at Blogalicious (of which, not coincidentally, Stacey/Justice Fergie is a co-founder), I’m headed to the Massachusetts Conference for Women as a social media mentor for small women business owners. I’m excited to share my experiences as a 10 year veteran as a small business owner and my obsession for social media. It’s free to sign up for a one-on-one session-you do have to be registered for the conference.
Where am I going with this? Tory Johnson is presenting a Small Business Boot Camp the day before the conference. At first I wasn’t sure if we could swing it. It’s the busy retail season so hubby can’t take any extra days off. We decided that I would just fly into Boston for the day of the conference. My sister agreed to watch the kids for a day.
Right after I accepted that I’d only be in Boston for a day, I received an email that a sponsor has offered tickets to Tory’s Small Business Boot Camp to conference volunteers! After a chatting with hubby and my sister about it, I put my name in the hat for a ticket. I’m finally going to see Tory Johnson!
This is a good reminder if you don’t put out what you want to the universe, then it won’t happen. You have to be open to opportunities that might not fit exactly what you’re looking for. They might just open the door to what you really want.
My secret desire to attend a Sparkle & Hustle conference (of which I never told anyone) turned into an even better reality. I also get to help other women business owners in exchange for seeing a speaker I’ve wanted to see since the beginning of the year!
If you’re in the Boston area, I hope you can make the conference and sign-up for a session with a social media mentor!
I’ll be tweeting as much as I can during the conference. Follow me on Twitter and the #masswomen hashtag Thursday.
Edited to add: Right after I scheduled this post, I clicked over to Gail McMeekin‘s site and learned that she will be speaking at the conference too! A few years ago, I started reading her book, 12 Secrets of Highly Creative Women. I never finished reading but it’s still on my bookshelf. She has a new book out that’s also on my wishlist: The 12 Secrets of Highly Successful Women. Now I’ll have to see if I can meet Gail. The universe works in mysterious ways, doesn’t it?
I received a complimentary pass for both events for volunteering as a social media mentor. All travel expense are paid by me. I was not required to blog or even mention the event.
