How My Bridesmaids Movie Girls Night Turned Into Sort of Date Night

After I confessed to you last week that I would take it easy for my Bridesmaids viewing party, I didn’t. Well, I tried. Friday I went shopping for the party. I bought cheeses, crackers, dips, and cupcakes even. By the afternoon, I lost steam. My head cold was back with a vengeance.

I was knocked off my feet. I spent the rest of Friday in bed, hoping that I would feel better in the morning for my girls night in party. I woke up Saturday feeling better, until I tried to get out of bed. Sadly I had to tell everyone that the party was canceled.

You know what’s sad? Part of me didn’t want to cancel because I had bought all that food for the party! I know. I know.

Well, turns out I have a sinus infection. That would explain the dizziness. Since I promised you an update about the party, hubby and I sat down to watch the movie Sunday night. It was a sacrifice, but I did it just for you, my readers.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from the movie. I didn’t read any reviews when Bridesmaids was in the theatres. I can see how it’s a girls night movie. I think I would have had more fun watching it with my girlfriends than with hubby. Bridesmaids is about Annie (Kristen Wiig) who is her best friend’s maid of honor. However, another bridesmaid Helen (Rose Byrne) tries to one-up Annie because she wants to the maid of honor role.

I found the supporting characters hilarious. Rhodes (Chris O’Dowd), the cop who is Kristen Wiig’s love interest, had great comedic timing. He played his role so straight that it was downright funny. It was also strange to see John Hamm playing a complete jerk since I’ve been watching him in Mad Men. Yeah, he’s a jerk in Mad Men but there are redeeming qualities about his character.

I found the plot fairly predictable. I could see the story a mile away. Hubby chose to watch the unrated version (both the rated and unrated are included on the dvd). Just a warning, the unrated version is not for those with a weak stomach. There’s very long bathroom scene that I had to leave the room for.

If you’re looking for a funny movie that will help you escape from reality, Bridesmaids definitely fits the role.

Bridesmaids comes out today on Blu-ray and DVD with all sorts of fun bonus features.

I received the Bridesmaid movie and party pack in exchange for my posts. Opinions are 100% my own.
