Truphae Inkredible Box: Inkmeister Review

Inkmeister Box Sept 2019

When I learned that fountain pen subscription boxes existed, I couldn’t help myself. I signed up for Truphae’s Inkredible Inkmeister Box (that’s a referral link).

My fountain pen obsession began in middle school, when a teacher taught me calligraphy. She let me borrow her pens. Taught me how to hold it in order to create the thin and thick lines that makes the lettering art so unique.

Today, I own several fountain pens and all the different ink supplies that go with them. Like any pen addict, I always want more.

When an ad for The Inkredible Box came across my Facebook feed, I had to try it. I opted for the Inkmeister Monthly, which offers 7 ink samples and one budget fountain pen for $25 a month, shipping included. Full disclosure: they had a free box trial (which has since ended).

Inkredible Inkmeister Unboxing Video

You can watch the unboxing below or keep reading for me. My cat tried to help with the unboxing, but I think he was annoyed that I was taking up his napping space.

Inkmeister Monthly Review

Here’s a closer look at what came inside the box.

Inkmeister Box Sept 2019 Ink Samples

I received 7 vials with 2mL of fountain pen ink. The vials were numbered and included a postcard with the brand, color, and swatch. The postcard was a reproduction and not accurate to the true colors.

Inkmeister Box Sept 2019 LuoShi Antique Dragon Fountain pen

The budget pen I received is LuoShi Antique Dragon, which is valued at $9.95 on the Truphae site. The nib wasn’t labeled, but the site says it’s a medium point. It doesn’t write very smoothly as you can see above. Lines are inconsistent as the ink doesn’t flow well.

Final Thoughts

Would I try the Inkredible Inkmeister Box again? Maybe. I’ll use the ink, but it’s not very much. The pen I won’t use at all. For $25, I could easily buy a budget pen and more than 7 ink samples from another place.

However, it’s a fun surprise. The Truphae team does a great job with packaging. I enjoyed the unboxing experience.
