A couple of weeks ago, our family was invited to test out the Nintendo Switch, the company’s newest game console. The event was packed with Nintendo fans, young and older alike. I meant to share our experience much sooner, but then we all got sick. Now that we’ve recovered, check out our adventures with the must-have Nintendo Switch, which releases this Friday, March 3.
We are huge Nintendo fans and were blown away by the innovative Switch. Nintendo has made gaming even more interactive and portable. You’re no longer tethered to the television. That’s right, it can be played as a handheld device or you can plug it into your television. The two remotes slide off the screen so they can be used similar to the Wii Motion remotes. With the game 1-2 Switch, you don’t even need a television.
Mind. Blown.
At $299 retail, the console is definitely an investment, especially since games start at $49.99. After spending 3 hours playing various games on Nintendo Switch, it’d be a good invest for our family. Of course, that’s assuming you can get your hands on it. It’s currently sold out on Amazon, but Best Buy still lists it as available for pre-order.
The first game we tried was Splatoon 2. It’s online multiplayer game whose goal is to paint as much of your “town” in your color before time runs out. We have Splatoon for WiiU and the Switch version is very similar to the original. It’s a fun, non-violent game.
Nintendo continues to prove that it’s the leader of motion sensor games with Arms. The game pits 2 players against each other as souped up mech people. The arena style game uses different–you guessed it–arm motions to fight each other. We were having so much fun playing the game that I didn’t get any photos.
One of our favorite games is Snipperclips, a cooperative puzzle solving game. Nintendo excels at non-violent cooperative games, making them a very family friendly gaming system. Not only is Snipperclips cute, but you have to work together to create cool creatures and dunk a ball into a basket. It’s not as easy as you think!
There’s plenty of games in the Nintendo Switch pipeline that will appeal to more traditional gamers (Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild, Street Fighter, and Has Been Heroes). For gamers like me, you’ll find updated classics such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Puyo Puyo Tetris. See the full line-up of Nintendo Switch games here.
