The year I got my driver’s license, I took my cousins to the movies after our Thanksgiving feast. By the time my extended stuffed ourselves with turkey and egg rolls, the adults were busy gossiping and playing cards. We young kids were bored. So my sixteen-year-old self borrowed the largest car in the driveway and drove all 7 or 8 of us to the movie theatre.
That was the beginning of our Thanksgiving movie tradition. Every year, I drove our gaggle of cousins to the nearby theater for a fun movie. Even though we’ve moved away from my large, rambunctious family, we still take the kids to the movies on Thanksgiving weekend.
Why we’re excited about Disney’s Moana
For this Thanksgiving weekend we’re excited to see Disney’s Moana, Disney’s first ever Asian Pacific Islander princess! Yes, Mulan is considered a Disney princess, but technically she’s not a princess–even if she is pretty awesome. Moana is the daughter of island’s chief, making her officially a princess. The movie officially comes out Wednesday, November 23 so buy your tickets now!
We attended a screening last week, but loved it so much, we’re going to see it again. Sophia and Jaxson had Moana Deluxe Soundtrack on repeat all weekend. One of our favorite songs is Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson singing “You’re Welcome,” written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
There’s your earworm. You’re welcome.
Why you should go to a Dolby Cinema at AMC
For our second viewing of Disney’s Moana, we’re headed to AMC Loews in Georgetown in DC to experience their Dolby Cinema. If you’ve never seen a movie at a Dolby Cinema at AMC, you’re missing out. They have plush reclining seats that pulsate with the movie’s action, high tech sound, and state-of-the art imaging for an immersive movie experience. I can’t wait!

What movie are you looking forward to this weekend?
I’m super excited about this movie. I’m a big fan of Hamilton, so I’m looking forward to LMM’s soundtrack. Also, the Rock is just adorable!
When I was a kid I was really into mythology. I just loved the stories of other cultures, beyond Greek and Norse. The story of Pele was a favorite, so I’m thrilled to see a feature film focusing on this under-represented culture.
It was so nice meeting you and your family today at the theater! Moana was a fantastic film for sure!!
