I’m glad I made time to explore Austin, TX on my own during BlogHer Food a couple of weeks ago. It was a gorgeous, sunny day to walk through downtown. I didn’t have a destination in mind, but used Sixth Street as my guide. I didn’t realize until after I left Austin that the city’s motto is “Keep Austin Weird.” Looking back at my photos, it makes sense.
Right outside of our hotel, Hilton Austin, was this super cool “clock” dubbed Tempo of Austin. I made a gif of it for you. This is next to the O. Henry Museum.
There’s so much to see in downtown Austin, both up high and on the sidewalk.
The Sixth Street area reminded me of New Orleans’ Bourbon Street. Lots of quirky bars with cool signage, like the door of Bat Bar.
The drawing skills on the The Four Horsemen sign was impressive. Those are damned good looking chalk horses.
This bike on the roof Roppolo’s Pizza caught my eye. I wonder what the story behind it is.
Downtown Austin is a mix of old structures and modern buildings. This is outside the Easy Tiger Beer Garden.
I veered off the beaten path a bit and discovered an old gas station transformed into a food truck hub. What makes an eggroll angry, you think?
This striking mural reminds me of The Nightmare Before Christmas. Fun and creepy at the same time.
Thanks for the cool photos and stay weird, Austin.
Thanks for the walk, I had no idea what Austin might be like but I’m loving that old building!
