For Mother’s Day, I Want Memes! #RefreshYourFunny

I try to avoid checking Facebook when my kids are home.  Especially on my 23” desktop monitor.

It’s not because I’m spending too much time on Facebook (I do). It’s not because I’m trying to be more present for my kids (I am).

It’s because both of my kids know how to read now. And they like to read Facebook over my shoulder. They see photos like these:

Buy Mom Wine

Mother’s Day is just a few days away, and my feed is already filled with memes about how badly mommy needs wine or <insert alcohol here> because her kids stress her out. Sometimes my kids do stress me out, but I don’t want them to think they drive me to drink!

Yesterday, I posted the above photo of Sophia and me on Facebook. Everyone commented on how big she looked. It hit me that’s she’s a tween and almost as tall as me. ACK! She’s smart, geeky, and bookish–much like me at that age. Which means she’s absorbing everything she sees and hears. Things that I do. Things that I say.

This video from Responsibility.org illustrates that our kids really do see what’s in our text messages and status updates:

I love a good meme because I don’t laugh out loud enough. After a busy, stressful day, I need a good laugh to unwind. I’m challenging myself and you to #RefreshYourFunny. Instead of sharing memes about how much we need alcohol, let’s find another way to unwind on Facebook and other social media.

I’ll start:
