Must See Date Night Movies on Amazon Prime via I'm Not the Nanny

I like to keep my Valentine’s Day low key. I don’t feel like jostling for reservations at overcrowded restaurants on this night for lovers. Instead, I’d rather cuddle up with my husband on the couch for a perfect lazy date night in. Once the kids are in bed, we grab our snacks and sit down for a movie.

Amazon Prime is one of our go-to ways to stream movies for our date night. I’ve put together mix of old and new films for your next couch date. Maybe you’ll discover something new-to-you or an old favorite to rewatch.

Note: If you’re an Amazon Prime member, these movies are all free to watch. If you’re not, you can rent them and save yourself  a trip to the rental kiosk or sign-up for a 30-day Amazon Prime trial. I’ve been a Prime member for over 2 years. My favorite perks are free 2-day shipping and all the great tv shows on instant video.

Thanks For Sharing: This movie about support group for sex addicts and their attempt to build normal relationships was surprisingly funny. The romantic comedy features an all-star cast: Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins, Gwyneth Paltrow, Josh Gad, and Pink to name a few. The Answer Man: Even though the tv series Parenthood is over, you can get your fill of the talented Lauren Graham as single-mom chiropractor who has to deal with a reclusive but famous author played by Jeff Daniels.

2 Days In New York Some of our favorite movies were discovered on nights of endless, indecisive scrolling and this gem is one of them. Chris Rock and Julie Delpy are a mixed race, multicultural couple whose relationship is tested when Delpy’s French relatives come to visit them in New York City. You’ll love this hilarious look at a modern family.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona: My husband and I saw this film in the movie theaters but only because our first choice was sold out. We hit the jackpot. Witty, sensual, and complex, the movie follows two friends (Rebecca Hall and Scarlett Johansson) as they fall in lust with a Spanish painter (Javier Bardiem). If anything, watch it for the super hot Bardiem and Selma Hayek, who plays his ex.

Mostly Martha: Make sure you’re watching the original German version and not the remake with Catherine Zeta-Jones.  Control freak Chef Martha (Martina Gedeck) suddenly finds herself in charge of her 8-year-old niece. With her life turned upside down, sous-chef Mario (Sergio Castellitto) intrudes in her restaurant kitchen who threatens her supremacy in the her restaurant. You can see the sparks fly off the screen. Martina and Sergio’s onscreen chemistry makes this movie perfect for date night.

Kinky BootsI confess we chose this movie after seeing my celebrity boyfriend Neil Patrick Harris perform a number from the musical during the Tonys. Based on a true story, this film about a drag queen (Chiwetel Ejiofor) coming to a rescue a man (Joel Edgerton) who inheritied his father’s ailing shoe factory. To stay in business, they start manufacturing shoes for drag queens, but the small town community have a hard time accepting this.

Chocolat offers the ultimate trifecta: chocolate, romance, and young Johnny Depp. Plus Juliette Binoche as Vianne, owner of the magical chocolate shop, is super adorable. It’s an oldie but goodie.

Wedding Palace We haven’t seen this yet because it’s so new, but it’s on my watch list for this weekend.. This rom-com takes a look at what happens when online dating turns into real life dating. Bonus, revolves around a Korean-American family.
