Happy World Kindness Day!
Kindness is a very abstract concept for a preschooler, but it’s an important concept to teach Jaxson. Sometimes he gets it, sometimes it’s hard for him to understand why his needs aren’t the most important. While role playing and discussion is important, I find that books can beautifully illustrate the how and why of kindness. Each of the different books below cover different ways we can be kind to one another. Make sure you tell us about a random act of kindness (RAK) and enter the giveaway at the end of this post.
Children’s Books That Teach Kindness
Big Red Lollipop by Rukhsana Khan: Rubina has been invited to her very first birthday party, but her mother wants her to bring her little sister Sama along. At the party Sama demands to win every game and even steals Rubina’s prized party favor. (Teaches fairness)
Big Words for Little People by Jamie Lee Curtis: Little kids will learn about big concepts such as perservere, respect, and patience with humorous verses accompanied by Laura Cornell’s illustrations. We love this duos books–they make big concepts and ideas easy for kids to understand. (Teaches respect.)
Cloud Tea Monkeys by Mal Peet and Elspeth Graham: Tashi, a young girl, attempts to find work on a tea plantation in order to earn money to take care of her sick mother. She’s too small to harvest the tender leaves when some magical helpers come along. (Teaches helpfulness.)
Giant Steps to Change the World by Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee: Inspire kids to do big things with this book’s motivational verses and quotes from history’s movers and shakers. Big changes only take tiny steps. (Teaches perseverance.)
The Can Man by Laura E. Williams: Tim wants a skateboard for his birthday, but money is tight in his family. Seeing how The Can Man on the street collects empty soda cans for money gives him an idea. Soon Tim collects enough cans for his skateboard, but an encounter with The Can Man changes his perspective. (Teaches compassion.)
I Like Myself! by Karen Beaumont: A boisterous little girl loves herself. From her messy hair, her stinky toes, and her love for her dog, this little girl’s energy will leap off the page. (Teaches self care.)
My Mouth Is a Volcano! by Julia Cook: Louis loves sharing his thoughts–to everyone! He’s constantly interrupting others to share his exciting ideas. How can he learn the right time and place to share his words? (Teaches self discipline.)

Oops! I forgot the #RAK. I was thankful that yesterday someone did the dishes that I was going to wash. I was able to do the same for someone else today. 🙂
thanks for sharing new titles that I didn’t know yet! They would fit perfectly with Force field For Good by Barry Lane and Colleen Mestdagh!
For the first time EVER during a pregnancy (this is my 4th) I had someone offer to transfer my grocery bags from the cart to the trunk. I was SO thankful!
I'm a tennis instructor and was following up with one my previous clients because I hadn't seen them in a while. Turns out that they were having some financial troubles but I know their kid loved tennis. I've been giving him free weekly tennis lessons at our club.
My neighbor puts back the trash cans for the whole block after the trash is picked up.
I m a student while I was going to my school I saw an old women carrying a heavy package she was tired and couldn’t bear that burden anymore so I rushed to her help and helped her. I carried that package and took to her house then I resumed my way to school worrying about my teacher and thinking that she won t let me in. Luckily, that she was absent. Helping others is a good thing and we should help even if we have things to do and god will help us and we won t have any problems
I love seeing someone just smile at a stranger. That's such a simple but powerful act of kindness.
Thanks for putting this list together! I didn't realize I did a RAK today, but upon reflection, I did bring (as a surprise) a kombucha to my friend who's been having tummy distress!
Watched a guy help an elderly woman up the stairs.
one of my students stayed late to help another kid with their assignment.
I paid for the person behind me in the starbucks line!
I'm sitting here trying to think of a RAK I've seen recently, and I can't think of anything! I think that means I need to take matters into my own hands and make sure my family shares some kindness this week.
(I did offer an old stroller to a stranger for free, but I was planning to donate it to charity anyway so it wasn't a hardship for me in any way.)
We just bought "I Like Myself" at the school book fair yesterday! I'm going to do a little self care today and treat myself to a big ole cup of coffee!

I saw another customer let a mom with two antsy kids go in front of her in line at the store. I have to remember to do this whenever possible now that my kids are getting bigger!
I am always happy when I see books that teach childen lessons in an entertaining way that will stick. I would like these for my children.
I was behind this guy at Chipotle who had bought two burrito bowls and his card had gotten denied. He owed around $16 and only had $7 in cash. The cashier told him not to worry about him and let him have the second bowl for free. It doesn't seem like much but I've seen plenty of instances where that doesn't end up happening.
I've learn this publish and if I could I desire to counsel you few interesting issues or suggestions.
