Happy Year of the Horse!

Happy Lunar New Year from I'm Not the Nanny

Wishing all of a you a joyful, prosperous and fulfilling new year!

Our family started celebrated the Vietnamese Lunar New Year today and we’ll celebrate all weekend and stuff our faces with Vietnamese new year food.  We attended a local celebration a couple of weeks ago and the kids wore their traditional ao dai (long dress).

As you can see,  both men and women (boys and girls) wear similar clothing in Vietnamese culture. These days most men wear western style clothing and save the ao dai for special occasions. Women wear them more often than men.

McDonalds Year of the Horse 2014 Calendar-I'm Not the Nanny

The folks at McDonald’s sent me these beautiful 2014 Year of the Horse calendars. Each page is illustrated by a different Asian American artists. My favorite is the one above by Tran Nguyen titled “Ao DAi Suburbia.” Can you guess why?

If you’re in the Los Angeles area, you can pick up a free Year of the Horse calendar at the McDonald’s Family Pavilion on February 8 at the Lunar New Year Celebration in Alhambra. McDonald’s booth will be on the corner of Valley Blvd & S. Sierra Vista Ave.

What if you’re not near L.A.? You’re in luck! I’m giving away 5 of these gorgeous calendars!  Just head over to my Facebook page and comment on the post about the giveaway. I’ll pick 5 winners on Wednesday, February 5th and announce it on the Facebook page. I can only ship to U.S. addresses.
