Today is the last day of National Blog Post Month aka BlogHer’s NaBloPoMo where I took the challenge to write one blog post every day for 30 days. And I totally nailed it!
I took the challenge for personal reasons and it wasn’t always easy. Sometimes I sorta phoned it in and posted photos. At least they were pretty photos, right? At one point I just wanted to quit. Why did I put such pressure on myself? I’ve tried for the past two years and utterly failed.
I’m happy that I joined NaBloPoMo and completed it!
What did you accomplish in November? Let’s celebrate together!
(Raising champagne glass): Cheers to you! It's too early to know, but at least NaBloPoMo helped me conquer stage fright! You asked. 🙂
Counter stage fright? That's freaking awesome! I'd love to hear how you did it.
Well, it wasn't 100 per cent, but then this is only my second solo singing performance in the 62 years of my life. 🙂 I did various things. My last NaBlo blog describes this, but one was to write a daily journal entry in the run up to the concert specifically to deal with my feelings and fears about performing. I also searched the web for advice and read lots of articles. I read up on the neuroscience of stage fright. It's basically about the fight or flight mechanism that kicks in when in situations, or perceived situations of extreme danger. Of particular use was advice to ACCEPT the emotions and physical symptoms and that to do so meant you were taking control of them to use in your performance. I wasn't sure it would work, but it worked spectacularly. In the last hour before performing, I had the most alarming physical and emotional symptoms. (The things going through my head were unbelievable). Facing up to these was like bursting a balloon with a pin – I saw immediately that they were only mental constructions and NOT REAL. In fact, I had a lot of support from the audience, accompanist and other participants.
Above all, my desire to create was stronger than my fear!
I hope this answers your question! 🙂
