I thought I would get more reading done while the kids were away, but instead I’ve been reorganizing and decluttering my apartment. Turns out I hoard Sharpies, flash drives, ink pens and blank books. I also hoard the kind of books you read (instead of take notes in), but you already knew that. I did get to manage to read a handful of books and write reviews for some of them.
Here’s my list so far (some links are affiliate links):
If you’re looking for a sexy read that is better written than Fifty Shades of you know what, take a look at Tara Me Sue’s The Submissive. It’s the first of a trilogy. Tara Me Sue is a smart writer and her heroine is confident and likable. The Dominant is the second book and is written from the point of view of, you guessed it, the dominant.
Speaking of From Left to Write, our July book club is The Execution of Noa P. Singleton. It’s well written and with lots of twists and turns. Noa P. Singleton is on death row with only months to go before her execution. The victim’s mother, who testified in favor of the death penalty, has a change of heart and attempts to turn Noa’s execution into a life sentence instead.
I also read my very first Curtis Sittenfeld novel Sisterland. I even went to her book talk at my local bookstore. While I wasn’t a huge fan of the book, it’s gotten rave reviews. Check out my review of Sisterland and decide for yourself.
Young love can be passionate and tragic at the same time, especially when you fall for your graduate school professor like Regina in My Education by Susan Choi. A fantastic literary fiction book. An in depth review is on From Left to Write.
While I was a bit disappointed in thriller The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes I think it would make a great beach read. Click the link to read my review.
Have you found any good reads this summer? I’d love to hear more!
