Fun Games for Kids To Play During Spring Break via I'm Not the Nanny

I’ve been meaning to write this round-up earlier but spring break seemed so far away. Except our spring break begins tomorrow. Whoops.

As a work at home mom, I have a ton of deadlines next week–while the kids are off of school. I alter my schedule to work in the mornings and evenings. Then we can do something fun in the afternoons, like play outside during this gorgeous spring weather!

While I’m working, the kids are allowed screen time on various devices. We also have non-screen games we play together. Some of them are even educational (shhh, don’t tell the kids). It’s all about balance and moderation, right? Plus mom’s gotta work! Here are some of the games we have on our spring break “agenda.”

Fun Games for Kids To Play During Spring Break

Robot Turtles from Think Fun

Robot Turtles  (Think Fun):  Inspired by the Logo programming language, this game lets kids ages 4 and up write programs with playing cards. The game teaches kids coding basics without a screen. That might sound weird, but the folks at Think Fun have done a great job with this game. Jaxson (5 years old) asks to play it often. Recommended for ages 4+.

Gravity Maze from Think Fun

Gravity Maze (Think Fun): I’m not sure who enjoys this game more, the kids or my husband. Gravity Maze is basically a logic challenge meets marble run. It comes with cards that have different configurations of their towers and you have to figure out how to make the marble hit the target piece. Don’t be fooled by how simple the game looks. You’ll find yourself playing for hours. Recommended for ages 8+.

Pokemon Cards

Pokemon Trading Card GameAre your kids as obsessed with Pokemon as much as Sophia is? She talks about them constantly and how their special powers stack up against each other. She learned how to play the trading card game last year and has taught both her dad and brother. I love watching the two of them play together! If your child is a big fan, they’ll also love the Pokemon: Essential Handbook. I have to get another one for Sophia because her copy is falling apart!  Recommended for ages 7+.

Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars

Mario vs Donkey Kong Tipping Stars (Nintendo 3DS & Wii U): Jaxson wants to be a video game designer, and this game gives him a (simplified) taste of designing his own games. Using classic Super Mario Bros. elements, he can design his new levels and share them with friends. Right now if you purchase the 3DS version for $19.99, you’ll receive a free download code for the Wii U version (or vice versa). We nabbed the deal so Jaxson and Sophia create levels for the other. The game is only available digitally through the Nintendo eShop (you’ll need to get a Nintendo eShop card). Rated E for Everyone.

Sale alert: Best Buy has Nintendo eShop cards on sale for 10% off this week with free shipping! They hardly ever go on sale so grab it now!

Lego Ninjago Shadow of Ronin 3DS Game

LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin (Nintendo 3DS & Playstation Vita): Fans of Ninjago will love the newest installment in the game franchise. The game has a good mix of action and puzzles to solve. Of course you can battle in the well known locations such as the Ice Temple or Chen’s Island.  Jaxson love the action in the game, while Sophia prefers the puzzles. Rated E for Everyone.

GIVEAWAY ALERT: Make sure you read to the end of this post to enter the giveaway!

Disney INFINITY: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) Video Game Starter Pack

Disney INFINITY: Marvel Super Heroes (2.0 Edition) Video Game Starter Pack  (various platforms): This game has been out a while, but I’ve been waiting for the price to go down. We scored a really great deal on it a couple of weeks ago and it’s now the kids’ favorite video game. Sophia is especially pleased that the starter pack comes with Black Widow, her favorite Marvel character. She loves super heroes as much as her brother and I’m glad Marvel is thinking about their female demographic. My husband and the kids have been immersed in this world during the weekends and I expect no less during spring break. Rated E for Everyone.

Of course we plan on spending as much time outside as my workload and the weather will allow!

GIVEAWAY: One lucky reader will win a copy of LEGO Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin  for Nintendo 3DS (also playable on 2DS). Enter via the Rafflecopter form below. (US address only)
