I’m a green smoothie novice. I love salads and prefer to dine on my greens tossed in a tangy yogurt dressing. After playing around with different green smoothie recipes, I can definitely see the appeal. Smoothies are quick and easy to make and super portable.

They’re also fun to make. My kids and I played around with the ingredients until we came up with this dark chocolate & cherry green smoothie.  Yes, chocolate can be healthy. This creamy, sweet and tangy smoothie is packed with protein thanks to Stonyfield Greek Yogurt. The yogurt is a staple in our fridge, so I can see myself making a quick smoothie for breakfast before my day gets busy.

I gave up our big blender a few years back because it took up too much space in our small apartment kitchen and I hated cleaning it. This Hamilton Beach Single Serve Blender is more my style. It small enough to leave on my counter and the blender cup turns into a travel mug! My kids fought over who got to push the button when we made these dark chocolate & cherry green smoothies. Dark Chocolate & Cherry Green Smoothie Ingredients via I'm Not the Nanny

It’s not quite cherry season around here so I used frozen ones. To be honest, I hate pitting cherries for recipes. Since they’re frozen, they’ll help make the smoothie a little colder and thicker. I used some dark chocolate chips we had on hand, but I recommend buying smaller ones so they blend better. We had small chunks of chocolate chips in our smoothies, which the kids loved.

For the “green” part of our smoothies we used watercress because I remember how much I love to eat it. So why not start eating it again? If you can’t find watercress, spinach will work just as well. We made some with and without mint and both were good. So I’ll leave it up to you if you want fresh mint in yours.
