When the Toddler Plans His Own Birthday Party

Jaxson turns three later next month. I know, I know. How could it have been three years already?

Recently he's become more aware of birthdays. I don't think he really understands what birthdays are. I tell him that he's turning three soon. We practice holding up three fingers. It's a lot harder than it looks. Maybe by the time he turns five, he'll perfect it.

All he hears about are birthday parties. His sister attended two without him in the past two months. He was a bit devastated that he couldn't attend either. He doesn't have quite as many friends as his sister yet. It's not for lack of trying. Every kid he sees at the park, he runs over to them while exclaiming, "That's my friend mommy!" Maybe I need to widen his social circles a bit? I can't help it if both of my kids are extroverts and social butterflies.

While I was out of town, Jaxson finally had a chance to attend a friend's birthday party. My friend hired a Johnny Depp-Captain Jack Sparrow look alike for the pirate themed party. I think Jaxson was overwhelmed by the number of kids there. His friend E has an older sibling too so there were kids of all ages at the birthday party.

Eventually Jaxson warmed up and talked to Capt'n Jack.

Now, my little guy talks non-stop about his birthday party. Each time he plans it, the details are a bit different. He gives me his guest list (me, his dad, his sister, and his aunt). He tells me what kind of cake he wants (chocolate) and shows me how he'll blow out the candle.

I think the kid has his priorities straight. Family. Cake. Candle.

Dang. I just realized I need to figure out birthday gifts for the kids. That's what I get for having two November babies.
